HDD navigation for stress-free motoring

With the optional hard drive based (HDD) navigation system, being lost becomes a thing of the past. Simply enter a destination using the Multi Media Interface (MMI) in the centre console, or just say where you want to go, using the advanced voice recognition system.

The HDD navigation system has a 40GB hard drive meaning that maps load incredibly fast and there’s an abundance of detail (including 3D buildings in cities and photo realistic 3D landmarks) when you zoom in. You can also specify modifications to the route such as avoiding or using motorways, toll roads and ferries. And you can recall favourite and recent destinations which are stored in your address book.

The system can also adjust the route you’re taking dynamically based on the latest traffic situation. It receives RDS-TMC (Traffic Message Channel) automatically so it knows about hold-ups before you do and, if dynamic navigation is active, the system automatically recalculates the route.

Your own personal jukebox

If you choose the HDD-based Satellite Navigation system, you can also create your own personal jukebox. With 10GB of its hard drive set aside for music, you download via CDs, USB sticks or SD memory cards up to 4,000 music tracks.

Audi Music Interface: your music goes with you

A very wide range of portable music devices can integrate with your car via the optional Audi Music Interface. Once installed, they can be controlled with the Multi Media Interface (MMI) or multifunction steering wheel (depending on the car’s equipment). Supported devices include USB memory sticks, portable hard discs, mobile phones, and Apple iPods – even portable cassette players.

And it’s not just the audio signal that’s transmitted. With compatible devices, detailed track information is displayed.

Bluetooth Interface

Bluetooth Interface, standard on SE and S line models is a Bluetooth connection for your mobile phone. This means that your phone can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with the Driver’s Information System, whilst remaining in your pocket.

In addition to standard hands-free functionality such as accepting/rejecting calls and hands-free communication, mobile phone preparation provides direct access to entries and phone numbers stored in the address book of compatible phones.

This innovative phone solution offers an unprecedented level of convenience, as it becomes possible to literally leave your phone ‘in your jacket pocket’ and still operate it using the car controls as outlined above. In effect, the mobile phone in your jacket pocket serves merely as a mobile SIM card reader. The phone calls are made using the car so mobile phone battery life is greatly increased and reception is improved as you are using the car’s antenna.

Crystal-clear digital radio reception

DAB digital radio not only brings phenomenal sound quality without interference but also a host of features to complement the listening experience. Alongside the audio, other data may be broadcast such as the title of the track and the name of the artist.

All available radio stations are displayed and are accessible via the MMI (Multi Media Interface) so you don’t need to spend time programming separate buttons. If you leave the range of a radio station’s DAB signal, the system will automatically switch to the analogue transmission.

Exceptional in-car entertainment

As an option, your Q7 can be equipped with a stunning rear-seat entertainment package for the pleasure of your passengers. Two seven-inch screens installed in the back of the front headrests, a six-DVD player in the boot, AUX input for devices such as games consoles for each screen and sound can be delivered via the car’s audio system or through headphone sockets (one for each screen).

Audi range ranked the UK's most secure again

Three BICSA security awards and a third consecutive overall manufacturer award for the Vorsprung durch Technik brand.

  • Audi wins third overall Manufacturer Award in British Insurance Car Security Awards, presented by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, Thatcham on Wednesday June 18th

For the third successive year Audi has stolen the show in the 2008 British Insurance Car Security Awards, not only scoring three category wins but also taking away the overall Manufacturer of the Year Award for the widest range of cars offering five star security.

The Vorsprung durch Technik brand’s commitment to anti-theft protection across its range was acknowledged by experts at a ceremony held on June 18th at the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre in Thatcham, Berkshire.

The top BICSA award goes to the manufacturer producing the widest range of models that satisfy stringent criteria laid down by Thatcham, including the achievement of a five star rating for ‘theft of’ security and a rating of at least four stars for ‘theft from’ security.

In addition to this all-encompassing award, Audi models were also voted best-in-class in 3 of the specific model categories assessed by the experts. The all-new A4 Saloon and Avant, S8 Saloon and TT Roadster models all outclassed rivals in their considered opinion.

Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks welcomed the very positive result for Audi: “I am delighted that the huge investment we have channelled into protective measures for all our cars has proved its worth yet again in Thatcham. To be acknowledged as number one for car security for a third consecutive year is an achievement which Audi AG’s security team can take considerable pride in,” he said.

Award-winning security protection is achieved right across the Audi range through features including Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser technology with interior ultrasonic protection, Thatcham Category 4 locking wheel bolts, anti-tow tilt sensors, visible Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and extensive marked parts.

Audi A8 hybrid

Utilising two power units – a 2.0 TFSI engine and an electric motor – the Audi A8 hybrid has a combined output of 245PS and 480Nm of torque, giving the car the same outstanding performance as a large-capacity conventional six-cylinder engine.

This systematic downsizing demonstrates significant fuel-consumption advantages,  the average fuel consumption is only 45.6 mpg, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 144 g/km.

The Audi A8 hybrid uses the parallel hybrid configuration – a highly efficient principle that avoids unnecessary friction and power losses. The powerful electric motor integrated between the 211 PS four-cylinder petrol engine and the eight-speed tiptronic transmission can supply a further 45 PS to the driveline, as well as 211 Nm of torque.

The A8 design study is a full hybrid, that is to say the petrol engine or the electric motor can propel it either separately or together. In the pure electric drive mode the car can reach 40 mph and cover a distance of more than a mile.

The Audi RS 3 Sportback - back by popular demand

Strictly limited second run of UK specification 340PS RS compact hatchbacks is now available to order

Following its initial sell-out performance in the UK, the Audi RS 3 Sportback is making a comeback, albeit one that is likely to be fleeting. In response to consistent demand, an additional, strictly limited production run has been secured, and just 250 slots now remain for UK customers. These examples will be available at the same £39,930 OTR price as the original 500 car quota which was rapidly snapped up in 2011.

A turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol engine punches the RS 3 Sportback at the horizon to the tune of a rich, bass-heavy five-cylinder soundtrack that can be further intensified at the touch of a dashboard-mounted Sport button. A total of 340PS and 450Nm is split between the four driven wheels thanks to quattro all-wheel-drive, and passes through a standard seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission with rapid fire shifts.

As befits an RS model the impressive output of this engine is reflected in an exceptional 0-62mph sprint time of just 4.6 seconds and an electronically governed 155mph top speed. Yet less predictably, this rapidity doesn’t rule out the potential for up to 31mpg according to the combined cycle test.

Carbon fibre aids weight reduction

A delivery on demand oil pump and a regeneration system that recovers energy during deceleration help to shore up the engine’s impressive economy performance. Equally importantly, features such as the vermicular graphite engine block and carbon fibre-reinforced polymer front wings work in favour of a relatively modest 1,575kg kerb weight and a suitably strong 216PS per tonne power-to-weight ratio.

The benefits of these measures can be felt not only in the intensity of the RS 3 Sportback’s pace, but also in the agile and animated handling delivered by its lowered McPherson strut front and four-link rear suspension. Its balance is boosted by a widened, 1,564 millimetre track, and its grip is maximised by 19-inch alloy wheels shod with 235/35 series tyres at the front and 225/35 at the rear. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system with its electronically controlled multi-plate clutch also oversees proceedings, granting the RS 3 Sportback an extra measure of traction, composure and stability.

The RS 3 Sportback can also move more freely thanks to its specially developed electronic stability control (ESC). It features a Sport mode that activates later intervention of the braking and acceleration retardation functions to enable greater adjustability without compromising safety, and can be switched off entirely for circuit use.

Highly efficient electromechanical rack-and-pinion steering provides a suitably direct gear ratio of 16.2:1 for keen turn-in, while internally ventilated disc brakes with four-piston fixed calipers modulate speed powerfully and progressively.

A deeper front apron that incorporates enlarged air intakes, an anthracite coloured single-frame grille and xenon plus headlamps indicate to drivers in front that the RS 3 Sportback is a force to be reckoned with.

Its side view is dominated by its flared, lightweight front wings covering 19-inch alloy wheels, prominent sill extensions, mirror housings in matt aluminium look and a large roof spoiler. A high-gloss black diffuser insert and two elliptical exhaust tailpipes on the left accentuate the styling at the rear.

Inside, Fine Nappa leather-upholstered sports seats with silver contrasting stitching, Piano black or Aluminium Race look inlays, a flat-bottomed RS steering wheel and RS-specific instruments highlight this car’s status. Its Driver’s Information System is also unique to the RS 3 Sportback, displaying boost pressure and oil temperature and doubling as a lap timer.

Standard equipment includes acoustic rear parking sensors, electronic climate control, DVD-based satellite navigation with MMI (Multi Media Interface) functionality and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. Optional features include front bucket seats, roof rails in matt aluminium look and styling packages in black or matt aluminium. Five exterior colours are available, plus an unlimited selection of custom paint finishes.

All-LED headlights put the ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ back into driving after dark

  • Highly-efficient all-LED headlights use just 40 Watts of power each, are maintenance free and long-lived

The new Audi A6 is all set to outshine its premium sector competitors as the world’s first executive saloon to feature all-LED headlights. Available as an optional alternative to the more familiar halogen or bi-xenon lamps also offered, the advanced LED units emit a strong white light that is similar to daylight, and use just 40 watts of electricity each, making them yet another important weapon in the battle against energy consumption.

The sophisticated LED units use just four one-chip and five two-chip LEDs to create dipped-beam light, and 24 white LEDs to make up the daytime running lights in each headlight. This keeps power consumption and maintenance down, and assures an excellent service life.

The Audi R8 was the first ever production car to feature all-LED headlights, which are now fast becoming a staple option across the Audi model range. All-LED headlights are also now available on the A7 Sportback and A8 luxury saloon, along with the new A6 Saloon.

The new LED lights are further enhanced by intelligent systems such as adaptive light control and high-beam assist, which give maximum visibility without dazzling other road users. The adaptive light system adapts the light provided by the headlights to the driving situation, with different arrangements of light when driving in the city, on country roads and on motorways.

The headlight control unit uses a small video camera in the base of the rear view mirror and route data from the optional MMI navigation plus navigation system to anticipate changes in ambient lighting. For example, the cornering light arrangement can be triggered before the car reaches a junction or corner to aid visibility on approach.

High-beam assist

The high-beam assistant automatically varies the range and width of the headlights between dipped and full beam according to the road situation. The system also incorporates an all-weather function that uses the rear view mirror camera to detect the lights of on-coming traffic and adjust the headlight intensity to give optimum visibility in varying conditions without disturbing other road users.

Audi A6 Saloon

All-LED headlights join Google Earth mapping, Bose surround sound, head-up display, Audi active lane assist and wi-fi hotspot capability, as just some of the new A6 Saloon’s innovations.

The ground-breaking A6 Saloon is available to order now and prices start at £30,145 on the road for the 2.0 TDI (170PS) SE model. The all-LED headlight option costs £2,710, and as well as dipped, main beam, indicator and daytime running lights also incorporates static turning lights, high-beam assist with all-weather light function and motorway lights.
